Southwell, Tuesday 23rd April

Today we head to Southwell with three runners, Mountain Pass, Nordic Tiger and Urban Solider.

First up is Mountain Pass in the Novices’ Handicap Hurdle at 3.30pm. He’s been quite disappointing on his last two handicap starts. I’ve changed his routine at home to try and bring about some improvement in him. He’s definitely capable off this mark but he needs to show us that on the course. I’ve reached for cheekpieces as I still think he’s an immature horse and I think maybe cheekpieces will help him to concentrate.

Next up in the Handicap Hurdle at 5.15pm is Nordic Tiger, who’s been a model of consistency this season. I’ve been absolutely thrilled with him. I think a flat track and good ground is going to be optimum conditions for him. I think he can run a really big race with Alice taking off 5lb, she gets on very well with him.

Our last runner of the day is Urban Solider in the 3 mile Handicap Hurdle at 5.50pm. He got stuck in the mud last time out but ran well at Doncaster before that. We’ve kept him fresh for good ground, he does need to bounce back to form but we’re hoping he can do that.
