Sandown, Saturday 3rd February

Today we head to Sandown Park to run Scamallach Liath in the Heroes Handicap Hurdle at 3.10pm, a very valuable race. It’s fantastic to be competing in a race with such good prize money and very best of luck to Scamallach’s lovely owners, Sue and Joe Norman.

Scamallach has run two really really good races this season, both at Ascot. I think the stiff track and test of stamina at Sandown today will play to his strengths, I believe that he is a horse who stays really well. He looks to be progressive and he’s got a nice weight. My fear is that he lacks a little bit of class for this field but he’s a very touch genuine horse who’s in great form, he’s at the right end of the weights and I’m sure he’ll run a good race. We’ve put cheekpieces back on him today, I think he tries very hard but in a big race like this we’re just trying to eke out every bit of improvement we can. Hopefully he’ll give Sue and Joe a huge run.
