Newbury, Saturday 10th February

Today we head to Newbury with four runners starting in the Novice Hurdle at 12.55pm where we run two horses, The Blueberry One and Salvatore.

The Blueberry One made a low key start at Newbury last month, but he’s a horse I do like, he’s just a big baby. I’d like to think that he will improve mentally for his first run. I don’t think he’s going to be up to winning this but he is a horse to keep on the right side of. Hopefully he can take a step forward here.

Salvatore was bitterly disappointing last week at Wincanton when he faded quickly, having jumped extremely well. We rode him quite positively that day so we’ll ride him with a bit more patience today, in the hope he might last home a bit better.

Brentford Hope runs next in the Betfair Hurdle at 3.15pm, which has been his big target this season. It looks an extremely deep race, but he’s in good form. It’s the type of race he could finish in the first six and have run really really well. He’s wearing time cheekpieces today because sometimes horses can run above themselves in them first time out so we’re trying that today. Hopefully he gets a good run around.

Our final runner in the bumper at 4.25pm is Noahsgreatrainbow, who as I said before he ran at Wincanton is a horse I absolutely love. He surprised us that day with how nicely he won, we didn’t think he was quite ready fitness wise to do that. He looks to have improved since then. I don’t think he really wants this ground but this will be his last run of the season and it will do him the world of good for some education regardless of the result.
