Haydock Park, Saturday 13th May

Today we travel to Haydock Park to run Dargianinni and Brentford Hope.

Dargiannini has had a great season for his owners Andy and Julie Mitchell, winning at Uttoxeter and then Newbury. He found the race at Aintree a little bit too hot last time out, the rain softened ground probably didn’t help him on that day. Nice top of the ground today I anticipate will really suit. We’re stepping into the unknown with 3 miles but Paul thinks he’s relaxing well enough in his races to certainly give it a shot. If he does stay 3 miles then it opens up a few more options for next season so we’re looking forward to running him and, if he stays, he got a lot of weight but he certainly has the class to run well.

The Swinton Hurdle at 3.15pm has been the plan for Brentford Hope for some time now. He’s won his two novice hurdles for me and he was good last time  at Huntingdon, I was very pleased with that performance. Since then he’s been trained specifically for today. He has a nice racing weight of 10 stone 4lb, I think the ground will suit and he’s won at the track before. It’s obviously a big step up in class from what he’s achieved over hurdles at the moment, but if he gets into a good rhythm I like to think he’ll run a really big race.
