Musselburgh and Southwell, Wednesday 1st January 2025

Today we head to both Musselburgh and Southwell.

First up at Musselburgh is Cracker Star in the Juvenile Hurdle at 12.35pm, who was bitterly disappointing on debut for us at Kempton back in October. He’s done an awful lot of work since then and a lot of schooling. I don’t see any reason why the track wont suit him. I would prefer if the rain didn’t come but he’ll run anyway having made the long journey. He’ll need to see the race out better today but I think he’s capable of more than he showed when he was last on the racecourse.

In the last race at Musselburgh, the Handicap Hurdle at 3.30pm we run Slugger who is in search of a three timer, which is extremely hard to do having been raised for both victories. He seems in very good nic at home. My only slight concern would be that the track could be slightly sharp for him but he’s in very good shape, has trained well for this race and I’m sure he’ll give a very bold account of himself whether he wins or not.

At Southwell we run Balhambar in the Handicap Hurdle at 2.49pm. He ran an excellent race at Cheltenham on seasonal hurdling debut for us last time out. We probably followed the wrong horse that day and just got to the front a little bit soon. This looks an appproaite opportunity and I think he’s got a massive chance. I’m very confident of a bold show from him today.
